Weight Loss Diary 7

August 27th, 2009 by LoseWeight

Covers days 9 thru 14

The great news is that at my Friday evening weigh-in I have lost 3 pounds (1.35 kilos) and that puts me 50% ahead of my target of losing 1 pound each week. My waist belt is feeling more comfortable as the new ‘one notch tighter’ position that was achieved last week so I am certainly achieving the major goal of measuring less.

The other thing that I’ve discovered is that my exercise sessions are now running for fifteen minutes three times each week rather than the originally recommended ten minute session. This is not due to me pushing harder, it is simply because my body seems to want to take more exercise. I think this extra exercise is a major reason why my weight loss is running ahead of schedule. Exercise should never be forced because some people have health problems that prevent them doing too much. You must discuss any new exercise regime with your doctor before getting involved; that’s just common sense.

It is at this stage of a weight loss program that many people become complacent and for this reason it is a good time to repeat the of the basics of the program. On the day before I started I set the following four goals:

- Each day I will nominate one item of food that will not be eaten that day.

- I will exercise three times each week for a minimum of ten minutes.

- Each day I will incorporate extra activities in my normal routine that will help improve fitness level.

- I will lose one pound (450 grams) each week.

The philosophy behind those four goals is:

- There is no point in nominating dairy products as the food you will avoid on a given day if you don’t consume dairy products, or your consumption is small. It is better to nominate something that you eat regularly. If you nominate potatoes for today then leave a space on your plate where potato would normally be served. This is what abstaining from one food item each day means.

- I exercise Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This is a formal exercise session for a minimum of ten minutes. The target is to raise your pulse rate by 50%.

- Increasing physical activity incorporates using stairs rather than the elevator, parking at the point furthest from the supermarket entrance, constantly asking whether you really need to use the car each time you plan to go out. This is an extension of your formal exercise program and must be used every day.

- Three thousand five hundred calories are equal to one pound (450 grams) of body weight. To lose one pound each week you must use 500 calories less each day. An adult body requires two thousand calories each day to function properly. In the western world the average adult consumes three thousand five hundred calories each day. It isn’t difficult to shed a simple five hundred calories each day. This done by a mixture of healthier eating habits and increased exercise levels. There is nothing more to losing weight.

Weight Loss Diets – A Review Of 4 Popular Diets

August 27th, 2009 by LoseWeight

There are a number of diets available, but here I review four which are popular at the moment.

1000 calorie diet

Trying the 1000 calorie diet is only advisable for one week, due to your body entering starvation mode and conserving fat. Overdoing the 1000 calorie diet is counterproductive to your body so try to stay on it for only 1 week. After 1 week you will loose between 3-5 pounds. The 1000 calorie diet can be used as a starter diet for a long term weight loss program. Try to aim for 2-3 pounds of weight loss and a good exercise program to begin with. After 1 week on the 1000 calorie diet, try upping your calorie intake or reverting back to a not so severe diet, this will prevent your body’s metabolism from slowing down. Here is a simple 1000 calorie daily menu.

Breakfast
• Banana sandwich made with 2 slices of wholemeal bread and a small banana.
• Small glass of orange juice

Snack
• 1 pot of low fat yoghurt (preferably fruit)

Lunch
• 1 wholemeal roll filled with tuna and low fat mayonnaise (use tin tuna in spring water)
• Mixed lettuce salad, red or yellow sweet peppers, spring onions

Snack
• 1 bag of lower fat crisps

Dinner
• Roast chicken breast (without skin)
• Potatoes, mashed with 30ml semi-skimmed milk
• Broccoli (all vegetables steamed or boiled)
• Carrots
• Gravy (made from granules)

Evening
• 1 low calorie hot chocolate drink made with powder and water

Drinks throughout the day
• Diet coke, water, black coffee or tea without sugar

The 1000 calorie diet can be used as a starter diet for a long term weight loss program. Try to aim for 2-3 pounds of weight loss and a good exercise program to begin with. Remember after 1 week on the 1000 calorie diet, try upping your calorie intake or reverting back to a not so severe diet, this will prevent your body’s metabolism from slowing down.

Vegetarian Diet

A well balanced vegetarian diet provides many benefits for the body. Some of those benefits include a reduced risk of chronic diseases, such as:

• Obesity
• Coronary artery disease
• Hypertension
• High blood pressure

Your vegetarian diet, must be planned well. If not your body could end up in need of some vital nutrients. Some of these nutrients essential for the body are:

• Protein
• Minerals (zinc, calcium, iron)
• Vitamin b12
• Vitamin d

Protein sources include, tofu and other soy-based products, legumes, seeds, nuts, grains, and vegetables

Experts say that in order for a balanced vegetarian diet, you should eat nuts and whole grain cereals for good sources amino acids.

Greens such as spinach, kale and broccoli are a good source of calcium.

For sources of vitamin b12 which comes from animals, can be substituted with fortified breakfast cereals and fortified soy drinks.

Sources of iron are red meats, liver and egg yolks which are all high in cholesterol. Spinach, dried beans and dried fruits are all good vegetarian sources of iron.

A vegetarian diet is healthier than a meat diet. However this does not mean that you have the right to stuff your face with crisps, chocolate and chips everyday. Your balanced diet should include all of the above, i.e. Fruit, vegetables, nuts, dairy produce and soy. Below is a table of some calorie controls in a vegetarian diet:

Abs Diet

The Abs Diet works on the theory that every 1lb of muscle gained, your body intern burns an extra 50 calories per day. So if you can build an extra 10lb of muscle your body will then burn an extra 500 calories per day. Using the Abs Diet your body will burn more energy by eating the correct foods and exercising the correct way. Losing 500 calories per day will loose you 1lb of weight per week. Expect to loose up to 12lb in the first two weeks followed by 5-8lb in the forth coming two

The Abs Diet allows you to eat 6 meals per day which consist of 12 power foods, such as: chicken, turkey and other lean meat, olive oil, beans and pulses, almonds, low fat dairy products, green vegetables, oats, eggs, wholegrain bread, whole grain cereals, berries, and protein powder. All other food is a not allowed.

For 6 weeks you will eat a series of 12 power foods, which provide the body with all the fibre and minerals you need to stay healthy and build muscle. Along with the diet you will do a 20 min workout three times per week, which will aid in the fat burning.

The Abs diet is mainly aimed at men, however women are encouraged to participate. The range of foods you can eat is still good and you do get an exercise program out of it. Also some very good looking Abs, health and sex life. The full diet book is: The Abs Diet by David Zinczenko from all good on-line book stores.

The Kellogg’s Cereal Diet

One of the simplest diets around at the moment is the Kellogg’s Cereal Diet. It is not a crash weight loss diet which will loose you pounds upon pounds; however it will allow you to get into those jeans that are 1 size to small.

To start the Kellogg’s Diet all you have to do is, eat one bowl of Kellogg’s Special K or Cornflakes for breakfast, and also one for a replacement lunch or dinner. That’s all! Carry this on for two weeks then you will see the results. Expect to loose around 3-6lb.

Whist on your diet, Kellogg’s allow you to have the same drinks and snacks as you usually would, but recommend that you eat a well balanced meal every day, with more fruit and vegetables. Another tip from Kellogg’s, is to keep a food diary to monitor and keep you aware of your current eating habits.

Weight Loss Diary Day 4

August 27th, 2009 by LoseWeight

This the third day of dieting in my weight loss program and it will be the last daily report in this series of articles to avoid you becoming bored with repetition. By now you will have the idea that I only give up one type of food each day and in general eat what I please – within reason. The caveat is that you must be aware of serving sizes because it is due to over-generous serving sizes that the majority of us are dieting. In future I will publish three articles each week rather than seven. If you have a question you wish to ask please use the comments link at the bottom to list your question and I will reply to all questions.

Today I will not eat any potatoes or potato products. Because I exercised yesterday I will not exercise today but will remain aware of things like parking as far from the supermarket entrance as possible and using stairs rather than escalators. – This now a part of my daily routine.

· Today started as normal by walking to the village to pick up my daily newspaper. This walk is now extended to approximately 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers)

· Breakfast is cornflakes with mixed dried fruits and nuts and milk and a banana and lime smoothie. (When I first wake up, before going to buy my newspaper, I drink a large glass of water. – This isn’t compulsory but water has zero calories.)

· 10.30am I stop work to take a cup of lemon green tea.

· 11.30am feeling peckish and I eat a raw carrot.

· 1pm and its time for lunch. Lunch is a ham and salad sandwich on whole-grain bread, an apple, a banana and a glass of fruit juice.

· After lunch I walk for ten-minutes, just a casual walk to help digest the food.

· 6pm is dinnertime, I like to eat early. Today was Filet Mignon with French beans and asparagus. My wife had a couple of boiled potatoes with her meal while I left a space on my plate where they would have been. (This diet is really so easy to contend with because I can have potatoes tomorrow if I please.)

Hopefully the people that have joined me on this weight loss program are starting to settle to the new routine by now and starting to become vigilant about serving sizes. I just want to repeat that during this period there is definitely no beer or drinks that fizz, even if they have sugar free or low calorie etc. printed on the label. Just accept that these drinks are a weight watchers biggest headache and do no good for your diet at any time.

Next article will cover two days and be published two days from now.

Weight Loss Diary 12

August 27th, 2009 by LoseWeight

From 18 thru 24 March.

After last week’s set back in my weight loss program this week is great because at my Friday weigh-in I was down to 186 pounds (92 Kilograms) and my waist belt is up one extra notch. Now that has sounded alarm bells because it is the final notch on the belt and I hate making extra holes.

This puts the weight loss program right back on track to achieve a weight of 180 pounds (89 kilos) that was the original target. I did set 17 weeks as the target period but will beat that deadline by around 4 weeks or more at the rate I’m losing weight.

The focus during the past week has been to increase my level of exercise – not by having longer or more vigorous exercise sessions but by being more conscious of doing those little extra things that we all pretend that we don’t have time to do. Like choosing stairs rather than an escalator when the option is available, becoming really serious about questioning whether I need to use the car to do a chore and just getting off my butt and taking a walk after dinner.

One instance that I recall this week was when I promised my wife to bring a carton of milk back when I walked down to buy my morning paper. The sports page was so interesting I totally forgot to buy the milk and arrived back home without milk. – Now I wear the pants in my house with her permission so I immediately turned around and made for the car to return to the village. Then I thought of my promise to increase exercise, so I slipped the car keys into my pocket and walked back to the village. Needless to state I felt proud of myself for pocketing the car keys and remembering my exercise pledge. Maybe that extra trip to the village was worth half a pound in weight loss?

It doesn’t matter whether the exercise helped me lose weight or not, it certainly helped make this old body a little fitter and that is equally as important as losing weight. What’s the point in losing weight if your body remains too unfit to enjoy the benefits of weighing less?

As your body becomes fitter during the process of following this system you should never stop reminding yourself that this extra fitness will be the major factor in keeping the weight off. Because you are fit you will want to be more active and activity burns calories.

Weight Loss At Work: Non-Food Rewards

August 27th, 2009 by LoseWeight

The e-mail comes out at noon. “To celebrate your hard work this week, there is cake and ice cream in the big kitchen at 3 today. Be there!”

The universal reward for hard work always seems to be food: cake and ice cream, a catered lunch for in-service training sessions, pizza for the overtime crew, bagels and cream cheese to brighten up a bleak Monday morning.

Food seems to be the perennial favorite for any kind of work reward because it is universally accepted. Some of us (we hard core dieters) may pass on the sweet stuff but usually find something allowable. In a world where two thirds of us are overweight or obese, is there nothing else available as a gift that cuts across all individual interests?

Recently, we had a whole week at my company devoted to employee appreciation. The primary rewards were, of course, food but other things were added: a company baseball cap, a hiking water container, a lunch bag, and a handwritten note of thanks to every employee from their supervisor. The cap was a bust for those of us with any modicum of fashion sense; the insulated flask and bag were food related, and the handwritten notes were superfluous – good supervisors show their appreciation of hard work constantly while a handwritten note from a harsh supervisor, no matter the “thanks” stated, means diddly squat to a resentful employee.

The HAS to be something else, doesn’t there? We human beings have few things totally in common and eating is the primary universal. Other common bodily activities such as urination and defecation are not easily translatable into some kind of reward system. We are all involved in physical activity, to some degree, but that is often more a chore than a delight.

When it comes to our other senses, we all differ so much that one person’s pleasure is another person’s pain: music, perfume, pictures, or massages are differential tastes rather than general givens.

Money is almost always acceptable but the small amounts that would be individually generated to replace a free dessert or snack would be so minimal that their reward value would be insignificant.

So what can those of us on a permanent diet, and alarmed about our coworkers’ increased girth, suggest?

How about plants? Small individual pots or a larger department shrub would save our waistlines while adding to the health and esthetics of our environment. I calculate, just within my call center, that if a plant had been given to each department, instead of an edible goodie, for celebrations over the past 5 years, that I would now be working in a lush rain forest of exotic plants where the stale re-processed air conditioned air would be purer, more humid, and a thousand times fresher. Morale booster and health benefits in one fell swoop!

How about the gift of time? In our overly busy pressured lives, who would not be immensely grateful for a free hour here or there. Rotate it through each department, letting one or two people leave early on a Friday afternoon. That would means something and would carry no cost so upper management should be ecstatic.

Instead of a handwritten note, how about getting Supervisors to perform their subordinates work duties for an hour or so, once in a while? Can you imagine the morale boost for an employee to get off the telephone, or the machine, or the computer, and shoot the breeze with friends for an hour while their duties are performed by their supervisors? And if mistakes are made – so much the better. It creates a sense of equality and inter-relationship between workers and supervisors that is generally lacking in a corporate environment.

How about free “Get out of jail” cards for every line worker? Each person gets one free card and additional cards can be given by supervisors for outstanding work, ensuring that the better workers have more cards. The cards can then be used as excuses for small transgressions – coming in a little late, leaving early, making minor mistakes. With the use of the card, a worker avoids verbal coaching, warnings, or being put on report. And let employees use their cards for coworkers who may need them – think of the teambuilding that would accomplish!

Flexibility of hours, assignments, and days, is another area where workers will universally respond: not to money, or food, but to accommodation of individual needs. Give each employee a wish card and then allow them to use it to get something they need.

What does all of this accomplish? It allows for employee rewards without fats and carbohydrates. Now isn’t that worthwhile?

P. S. I’m recommending this to my company. I’ll let you know if they buy it!

Weight Loss `Clarity` Still Confusing

August 27th, 2009 by LoseWeight

With all the profound, prolific, often professional and proven facts you can find in this world to clearly help you lose weight, countless individuals still suffer from lack of knowledgeable solutions. It’s no small wonder why the saga continues.

Three Challenging Reasons

There are three main reasons why burning fat and getting rid of excess or unwanted pounds remains such a large challenge. Would you like to know what they are?

1. Lack of A “YOU-Centered” Approach in Business.

2. Basic Misunderstanding or Misconception of Human Anatomy and Its “True” Operational Ability and Function…

3. Motivation — That Is, Having Individual Possession of An Absolutely Compelling Reason To Get It Done, and In The Right Way, Too.

One: You – Centered Approach

Let’s look at Number One: Lack of A “YOU-Centered” Approach in Business.

Lack of a “you-centered” approach in business simply means this… within numerous industries (an, diet-exercise-fitness-health-nutrition-weight management isn’t much of an exception to the rule), sales primary production focus lies in “features.” These are: What the weight loss product or service can do; how it’s structured, or why it’s supposed to be so great.

Quite often business, industry, and media seem to forget that “people” or “real” customers pay the salaries and make the businesses run. With that in mind, YOU and YOUR ideas, your comments, needs, feelings, circumstances and suggestions need to become first in the forecast of business and corporate venture.

Until this happens, YOU must seek your weight loss outcome with even more persistence, determination, and care.

Two: Formal Anatomy Misconceptions

Now, let’s look at Number Two: Basic Misunderstanding or Misconception of Human Anatomy and Its “True” Operational Ability and Function.

In today’s society, the hard cold fact is this… unless you’ve dedicated your life to, and /or spent/invested thousands of dollars into an accredited nationally or internationally recognized and formal program of biomechanics, anatomy, reflexology, physiology, athletic training, or exercise science and dietetics… you are bound to lack the most firm grasp on the “inner workings” of the human body.

In other words, the only way to master a thing is to practice it. Yet, how can you rehearse your routine with correct and clear understanding when you have not broken it down, piece by piece, reassembled it again, and documented your findings and outcomes over and again, plus noted differentiations, subtleties, and idiosyncrasies?

Without such knowledge (either your very own, or the assistance, guidance and availability of a caring and reliable resource person or organization), you may be stuck with antiquated ideas like: 1) weight lifting makes me too bulky, so I won’t add the resistance training component to my weight loss workouts; 2) I’m doing my abdominal crunches every day, so why am I still so fat or overweight around the middle?… and 3) I already cut back on my food intake, so why aren’t I losing weight?

In a nutshell, gaining genuine comprehension of human anatomy and its true operational ability and function provides answers to all of the above questions, very accurately, AND this solution empowers your command to DEMAND timely and guaranteed weight loss results for your own life.

Three: Compelling Motivation Consequence

Finally, let’s consider Number Three: Motivation — That Is, Having Individual Possession of An Absolutely Compelling Reason To Get It Done, and In The Right Way, Too.

Your motivational trigger can be a pleasant one, or a painful one. Yet, you can turn even a painful experience into a positive weight management cause. For the word “motivation,” allow me to offer you the “renewed” and much more highly useful definition…

Motivation centers around being absolutely convinced regarding the consequences of your adequacy or inadequacy at improving your performance. Put simply, you’ve got to find the strongest reasons that make you stick to at least the minimum daily requirements for weight loss progress. Without necessary motivation, your effort succumbs to the “half-baked” style for getting things done.

More often than not, individuals remain just a few mere points away from reaching their threshold breaking potential on a consistent basis. And, motivation (that is, the kind we just talked about) in such cases gives you the added intellectual “spark” that ignites the flame for more intense activity almost “exactly” when you need it.

Such an advantage can literally make the difference between, let’s say, pumping out a 50-minute aerobic sessions at 125 heart beats per minute, or only performing a 25-minute session at only a mere 115 heart beats per minute. That’s a gain or loss of about 325 extra calories in your per-day workout.

When adopting the first example above, your “motivated” session style gets you the added advantage of losing about 300 “extra” calories per day. That gives you a total of approximately 500 calories lost on each workout day.

This eventually translates to 22 pounds of extra body fat lost per year!

Thorough aerobic targeted training workouts can offer you up to 10 or more calories per minute of fat burning potential. Yet, the average person usually only reaches 5 or 6 calories per minute during a normal workout.

Therefore, implement motivation to take you farther. Use your intentionally focused and direct weight loss clarity to achieve markedly improved fat-burning results.

In Summary

Are you clear now? There’s a lot of information out there. But the hidden secret is to become aware of those “other” factors (like the ones we’ve mentioned here) that contribute equally, if not more, to the way you approach losing weight through healthy lifestyle changes.

You can see that clarity is about knowledge… wisdom is a process involving awareness, accountability, and action. Make every reasonable attempt to see your way CLEARLY through to weight loss success.

Weight Loss Fast

August 27th, 2009 by LoseWeight

Various changes in technology, society, and even the economy have largely affected the lifestyle of a lot of people. Everything seems to move in a hurry, nowadays, and breaks from work seem to last only for not more than 5 minutes each. Gone are the days when quality time was still spent to cook healthy food. Now, even eating is taken for granted and a lot of people rely on fast food as their daily source of nutrition. However, the beneficial contents in fast food is largely outweighed by the harmful ones which eventually leads to continuous weight gain and unmanageable excess fat.

Because of the same heavy workload and hectic schedule, people are also deprived of the time they need to exercise or work out. A lot of individuals are then left with no other choice but to make use of medications just to shed their unwanted pounds. In response to this growing demand from consumers, companies and even some individuals suddenly came up with several weight loss pills that are now displayed in various drugstores and shops. Appetite suppressants, enzyme blockers, increased metabolic rates, lipase inhibitors, and fatty acid binders are just some of the most common terms associated with weight loss pills or medications. Aside from weight loss pills, other people avail of weight loss programs that focus on decreasing carbohydrate in-take in exchange of replacing it with other substances such as protein or fats. This means that each medication and program claim that they are the most effective in their field, a very common strategy used in advertising. However, according to a recent study done by The Weight Loss Institute, only a few and selected medications and programs are really telling the truth. Though some also have a high level of effectiveness, they also pose a big threat when it comes to their side effects. The main message here, therefore, is caution.

Societal pressure and stigma make some people decide impulsively in choosing weight loss pills that they will take. Some, by word of mouth, learn about the effectiveness and benefits of certain weight loss medications and easily settle for that opinion as assurance. However, a person should also remember that when it comes to medications, the “deciding” part is not the only thing that matters. In fact, the getting-to-know-the-product part is considered more important and beneficial. Medications are known to cause fatal reactions and result to adverse side effects depending on the substances they contain and the general health condition of a person. Problems may arise either from the substances contained in the medications or, possibly, an inherent condition of a person such as allergic reactions to medications. Few are aware that the use of weight loss pills, though often viewed lightly because of the less serious health condition it is intended for, has still been reported to be associated with incidences that required emergency medical help and situations that are almost fatal due to side effects. The most common health problems reported to result from weight loss pills include diarrhea, vomiting, rash, and heart disease.

Despite the many promises of weight loss pills for an easier way to lose excess weight, some even going to the extent of claiming that “eating more is the way to lose more weight”, the natural way of losing weight which involves decrease in food intake and exercise or workout is still the much better option. This method requires no further tests to check for possible harm from side effects. It is also proven through time by numerous individuals who have also gone through it to be highly effective and completely healthy. This, however, requires more effort and discipline. Weight loss is not just a mere act of swallowing a pill but rather a really hard-earned goal. When a person finally achieves his or her desired weight, the satisfaction is greater and success is much sweeter. Losing weight naturally is not just shedding off extra pounds but gaining more good personal values.

Weight Loss And The Theory Of Constraints

August 27th, 2009 by LoseWeight

It’s always been fascinating to me how business, finance and weight loss parallel one another.

Take a personal bank account for instance. If you add more to it than you take out of it, your account will grow bigger and bigger. The same is true with your body. If you put more into it through eating than you take out of it through activity it will grow bigger and bigger. That’s a simple truth isn’t it?

What about a business? If a business owner doesn’t watch his business on a daily basis and take action when necessary his business will most probably fail. The same is true with a weight loss program. If it’s not monitored on a daily basis and action taken when necessary it will fail. Most businesses fail. So do most weight loss programs. That’s a simple truth also.

I’ve been an industrial engineer all my life and years ago I read a book that pertained to manufacturing by Dr. Eliyahu M. Goldratt, an Israeli physicist, entitled “The Theory of Constraints”.

The core idea in the Theory of Constraints is that every real system, such as a profit-making enterprise, must have at least one constraint.

If it were not true, then the system would produce an infinite amount of whatever it strives for. In the case of a profit-making enterprise, it would be infinite profits.

Because a constraint is a factor that limits the system from getting more of whatever it strives for, then a business manager who wants more profits must manage the constraint.

There really is no choice in the matter. Either you manage constraints or they manage you. The constraints will determine the output of the system whether they are acknowledged and managed or not.

There can be many constraints in a business but I found out in my engineering career there is usually a primary one. All constraints must be managed but by focusing the most attention on the primary one, whatever is being strived for will improve. Perfection is never achieved but improvement can be accomplished.

It’s a constant battle.

Does The Theory of Constraints apply to weight loss? Absolutely! If there were no constraints to weight loss then none of us would be fat. Dieters can achieve improvement by focusing on their primary constraint the same as the business manager, even though all constraints must be managed.

It’s a constant battle.

So what is the primary constraint to weight loss? I think it’s universal to all dieters. The cartoon character Pogo, by Walt Kelly, said it best. “We have met the enemy and he is us.”

Yep. The primary constraint to weight loss is between our ears. We prefer sitting on the couch and indulging in the pleasures of the moment rather than striving for what we would like to have in the future. As far as weight loss is concerned we might as well be hunting for unicorns or searching for pots of gold at the end of rainbows. We’re just as likely to find them as to lose weight.

Good information on weight loss is abundant but to lose weight you must become proactive. Knowledge is not enough. You’ve got to work on that primary constraint. You’ve got to get off that couch and DO SOMETHING. I wish you the best.

Weight Loss And Healthy Chocolate

August 27th, 2009 by LoseWeight

There is a great benefit acquired from losing weight. Though losing weight is not easy, the long term effects brought by it would probably be of help to anyone considering to shed those unwanted and unhealthy pounds.

The following are a few of the remarkable advantages from losing those excess weight.

Weight loss prevents high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke

That is a three in one benefit from losing weight. It is a fact that heart disease and stroke are one of the primary reasons for disability and death in both men and women in the US. People who are overweight have a higher risk to have high levels of cholesterol in their blood stream as well as triglycerides (also known as blood fat).

Angina, one type of heart disease, could cause chest pains as well as a decrease in the oxygen pumped to the heart.

Sudden death also occurs from heart disease and stroke, and usually this strikes with very little warning, signs and symptoms.

It is a fact that by decreasing your weight by a mere five to ten percent, this could positively decrease the chances of you having or developing heart disease or a stroke. Plus, how your heart functions would also improve as well as your blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyceride count will decrease.

Weight loss prevents type 2 diabetes

Diabetes puts in jeopardy one’s life as well as how one leads his or her life because of the complications that result from having it. Both types of diabetes, type one and type two are linked with being overweight. To those who already have diabetes, regular exercise and losing weight could help in controlling your blood sugar levels as well as the medication you may be currently taking. Increase your physical activity. You could simply walk, jog or dance. It helps get those blood streams moving as well as lose those unnecessary pounds.

Weight loss helps reduce your risk for cancer

Being overweight is linked with a number of kinds of cancer. Specially for women, the common types of cancer that is associated with being overweight include cancer of the uterus, gallbladder, ovary, breast, and colon. This is not meant to scare you, this is only to keep you informed. Men are at risk too from developing cancer if they are overweight. These include cancer of the colon, prostate and rectum. Extra weight, a diet high in fat and cholesterol should as much as possible be avoided.

Weight loss reduces sleep apnea

Or it could eliminate it all together. Sleep apnea is a condition wherein one could temporarily stop breathing for a brief period and then would continue to snore heavily. Sleep apnea could cause drowsiness or sleepiness during the day and – because of being overweight – could result in heart failure. Shedding those excess pounds could help in eliminating this problem.

Weight loss reduces the pain of osteoarthritis

When one weighs heavily, the joints of his or her knees, hips and lower back would have to exert double – if not triple – effort to carry him or her through out his / her waking, walking and moving life. This could cause tension and stress on these joints. Weight loss decreases the load these joints carry thus decreasing – if not eliminating – the pain of one who has osteoarthritis.
